The title of the book comes when Mr. Mallard leaves the family and plans to meet them in the public garden (one of the places that wasn't quite right for building their nest) in one week. Mrs. Mallard teaches the children many things, and by the end of the week they are ready.
In order to get to the public garden, the trail of Ducklings following behind Mrs. Mallard have to cross two busy roads. A police officer (who remembered the ducks from before) stops traffic and allows them to cross safely.
My kids adore this book. I like it too.
As we stretched our legs after a little drive to Rexburg yesterday, I told my little "ducklings" to get in line and follow me.
We walked around the old Tabernacle, and looked at the flowers. My "ducklings" we're kind of wild and goofy. But I didn't mind since they'd been stuck in the car for a while (the drive there, and while I went into Walmart. We told them that kids aren't allowed in stores right now...)
Brant ordered Taco Bell at the drive thru nearby, and we all enjoyed a little picnic in the wind.
It was so needed- a little get away out of the house! I was feeling buried in the same old routine of quarantine. School. Clean. Cook. Eat. Play outside. Check my email, or texts, again.
I do recognize that it's really not much different from the same old routine of being a stay at home mom... But when you don't even have the option of going to story time!?
I fully planned to buy two kitchen chairs ($7 for both on marketplace), and a new booster seat for Anna to break my boredom.
And I did. But we also ended up buying a new van.
It's a beastly thing. Seats 12. AWD. 349,000 miles! I know. I know.
WHY would we buy a van with that many miles? Because anything with mega-seating and AWD (or 4WD) is astronomically expensive! And we figured even if we have to replace the engine-which we likely will need to, sometime- it's still a more budget friendly option than going into debt to avoid having a kid in the front seat with us.
In the meantime, it seems to have cured our doldrums. Everyone woke up cheerful and vibrant this morning, despite not getting home until after 11:00 last night!
I remember buying a 12 passenger van. The kids loved sitting in the back, singing, We're on a Bumpy Road!
ReplyDeleteIt helped a lot when we moved to Umatilla. Enjoy those cute Ducklings. Taco Time isn't here and I miss it.
I didn't know you guys drove one? Brant didn't tell me that. Maybe he doesn't remember it...
DeleteIf that beast has seen nearly 350,000 miles, it should have some get-up-and-go left!
ReplyDeleteLooks nice.
I like your little row of ducklings!
